Professional Tips:

1.     Use your space right-  We are referring to making the most out of the subject.  Backgrounds are not necessary if the subject warrants.  Use the space of the print to the maximum when possible.

2.     The use of Forms-  An important and often overlooked aspect of photography is the use of the forms associated with the subject.  Don't visualize the subject as an image, yet as an object, shape, and form.  Use its form to select the correct lighting and it will be a hit.

3.     Omit Motion- Still photographs should never have motion when the picture is taken.  Remove motion and avoid center horizon lines.

4.     Contrasting colors- Some of the most famous photographs in history have been black and white.  However, learning to use colors that contrast can have a huge positive effect on your work.

5.     Get Close- Many amateurs make the mistake of staying too far away from the subject when shooting.  The problem is that you can't zoom in after the fact but you can reshape and re-size closer images.

6.     Shutter Lag- A common problem with most digital cameras is their delays in respect to shutters.  You see an image and try to photograph it.  However, there is a slight delay from when the button is pushed to when the shutter actually captures.  As a result, the moment you saw was lost and predicting the behavior of shoots becomes more difficult and important.

7.     Pan- If you are planning an action shot, pan with the subject to accommodate for slow shutter speed.  This will ensure that you get several good photos.

8.     Continuous Photos- Tip #7 requires a camera that has the capability to take multiple repetitive shots without processing in between.

9.     Night Shots- Taking photos at night can be great or horrible.  Make sure that the lighting is great, and your shot will be great.

10.     Learn the Camera-     Read the manual and its different settings, it may have night-time settings that can help your shots.
